After studying Petroleum Engineering at the university in Leoben, Prof. Rose started a successful international career with Royal Dutch Shell, spanning almost 25 years and many countries and senior positions, including that of Chief Strategist for the corporation. After leaving Shell in February 2010 until April 2017, Rose joined the World Energy Council in London as the Senior Director Policy & Scenarios, leading the assessment of international energy policy making and the development of Global Energy Scenarios to 2050. From February 2017 to May 2022, Rose worked as Chief Strategist of ADNOC, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, one of the largest national oil companies in the world.

Since August 2010 Prof. Rose has been teaching strategic management and applied corporate management at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz. Prof. Rose is chairman of the supervisory board of Energie Steiermark AG, a regional utility and power producer in Austria, and until June 2024 was a member of the supervisory board of OMV AG, the Austrian national oil & gas company.
